President Droupadi Murmu underlines importance of mutual cooperation for global security, growth

Underlining the importance of mutual cooperation among Navies of friendly nations for global security and growth, President Droupadi Murmu has said that India believes in collective responsibility and shared cooperation.

The President made a review of the Indian Naval Ships and ships and vessels of friendly nations, anchored at sea, in six columns as part of the 3rd International Fleet Review (IFR) 2026, held off Visakhapatnam coast on Wednesday (February 18, 2026).

Addressing the Naval officers, sailors and guests on board INS Sumedha, the Presidential Yacht, on the conclusion of the review, Ms. Murmu congratulated the Naval personnel of India and other nations for their impressive display as part of the IFR. She recalled that India has very good maritime relations with South East Asian nations for trade commerce and cultural exchange for centuries.

The Indian Navy as part of Human Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) during natural calamities in friendly nations had earned the goodwill and trust of navies around the world. She said that the ‘Bali Jatara’ between Odisha (India) and Bali signifies the trade, commerce and cultural exchanges between the people of India and south east Asian nations.

Indian Naval might at sea, underwater and in the air was on display at the 3rd International Fleet Review (IFR) 2026. While the imposing INS Vikrant, India’s indigenously-built aircraft carrier, reflected the nation’s march towards Atma Nirbharta (self reliance) and its capabilities in building aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines. The participation of ships of friendly foreign nations and the French Navy’s Atlantic aircraft in the aerial demonstrates strengthens India’s belief in the need for shared collective responsibility and shared cooperation in the Indian Ocean region.

The aerial combat manoeuvres by the MIG 29K aircraft, fly past by Chetak helicopters, Chetaks carrying the Indian National Flag, and the Indian Navy flag, choppers and Naval aircraft in various formations and the P-8i, anti-submarine aircraft releasing flares was impressive to say the least.

Earlier, President Droupadi Murmu inspected the Guard of Honour at the Naval Dockyard Jetty.

She was escorted to the Presidential Yacht by the Chief of Naval Staff and other Naval officials on to the dais set up on the Yacht INS Sumedha. Governor S. Abdul Nazeer, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu were among those who were on the dais.
